During my short years I have came across some unusual plant combinations. Benmore Botanic Gardens has Araucaria araucana (Monkey Puzzle) with native Calluna vulgaris (Heather). National Trust Scotland Crarae Gardens which I have also written an article on (https://stories.rbge.org.uk/archives/28395) hint hint! Had again Araucaria araucana (Monkey Puzzle) and Trachycarpus fortunei (Chinese windmill palm) These odd combinations worked for me. Benmore beautifully illustrates a naturalistic Chilean environment while reminding you this is still Scotland.
These encounters could not prepared me for what I saw while exploring Vannucci Piante on my day off. Simply, my brain cannot compute this. Dicksonia and Agave are about as far away as you could get from a typical partnership.
