Most of last week I spent on building support structures for my peas, beans and sweet peas. I went for the cane and twine fence idea and constructed four 1m tall structures at the very front of my plot.

For sweet pea seedlings, which should reach height of 1.8m, I built a double-row support strengthen with diagonal canes. I put a wide and long piece of netting around the structures to keep off the birds. Taking it off and putting back on is a major job – it gets tangled so easily that you start thinking whether not to take chances with the birds.
