Typical of Bronstein’s practice, the works reference 18th and 19th century architectural history. The wallpaper, depicting machinery from the Industrial Revolution, forms a backdrop to the large-scale drawing exploring the relationship between greenhouses and the birth of modernist architecture. In The Birth of the Skyscraper from Botanical Architecture, 2015 Bronstein uses ink and watercolour to reimagine and intertwine the two distinctly different architectural styles, creating an architectural fantasy and an impossible structure.

Displayed on the ground floor of Inverleith House in a central room overlooking Inverleith lawn, near to Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh‘s 19th century glasshouses, the work offers the viewer an interesting space to consider the context within which the work is exhibited and the history of the surrounding architecture.
