At this time of year gooseberry sawfly larvae can rapidly strip the leaves off your gooseberry bush.

The best form of defence is vigilance. Regularly inspect your plants and pick off the caterpillars as soon as you spot them.

If your plants get defoliated they may produce a crop but will be weakened and produce a poor crop next year.
