This week is international open access week #OAweek and celebrates research outputs that are distributed online, free of access charges or other barriers. The theme this year is ‘Open for Climate Justice’.

Making information available freely, and supporting others to do so, is essential for the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries and in tackling the current biodiversity crisis and climate emergency whilst enabling all stakeholders to input and benefit equally.

RBGE, as a major producer of scientific information on biodiversity, is committed to making as many of our research outputs and as much of our data as possible freely available. Both our flagship journals, Edinburgh Journal of Botany, an international journal of plant systematics and biodiversity (https://journals.rbge.org.uk/ejb), and Sibbaldia, the international journal of botanic garden horticulture (https://journals.rbge.org.uk/rbgesib) follow Diamond Open Access models (free to publish and free to access).

We also make much of the data held in our Living, Herbarium and Archive Collections freely available via our institutional website and provide a wealth of information on our key research groups though our online resource centres (https://www.rbge.org.uk/collections/online-resources/).
