A specimen of Mangosteen from New Guinea. Mangosteen is the only Garcinia L. taxon widely cultivated at commercial scale for its fruit. Mangosteen generally reproduces apomictically, which means the fruits/seeds are produced without the need for pollination or fertilization. This is similar to how dandelions reproduce.
