New Sylva packshotIn advance of the Sylva exhibition, opening in the John Hope Gateway, RBGE and the National Botanic Garden of Wales in April 2014 we want to find the UK’s favourite tree books.
Nominations so far from well-known names in the world of gardening and natural history include: the Planters Guide by Sir Henry Steuart; Archie Mile’s Silva: The Tree in Britain; Consolations of the Forest by French writer, the appropriately named, Sylvain Tesson and even the Brooke Bond Picture Cards of trees that were issued in 1966!
So which tree-inspired book do you think should be on our list? They could be fiction or non-fiction – you could pick something traditional like Steven & Carlisle’s Native Pinewoods of Scotland, or maybe Tolkien’s Tree & Leaf or how about Jean Giono’s The Man Who Planted Trees?
Tweet us your favourite tree book making sure to include the #Sylva. All of the suggestions received will go into a prize draw with the lucky winner receiving a copy of the book The New Sylva by Gabriel Hemery and Sarah Simblet. We will also include some of the most popular titles in the exhibition so come along and see the most popular tree books of all time.

The New Sylva will be published by Bloomsbury in April
