On 14th May Inverleith House was delighted to welcome a group of 20 school children to the current exhibition, Boys and Pastel, by Swiss artist Nicolas Party.
After a tour of the works on display in the gallery, the children spent two hours exploring the techniques and materials used by the artist to create their own works of art.
Following a brief introduction on how to use pastels, charcoals, puty rubbers and erasers, everyone got stuck into their own pastel drawings; portraits appeared and trees grew out of landscapes.
Then, as if this wasn’t enough fun, everyone had a go at spray painting colourful wall murals with decorative pattern and exuberant style just like the walls at Inverleith House.
When all the works of art were finished they were hung on the wall, creating a beautiful exhibition inspired by Nicolas Party’s work.
Inverleith House is looking forward to working with more budding artists in the next few weeks! Come and join us forĀ Pastels and Painting Pebbles, a series of drop-in art workshops for 8 – 12 year olds inspired by the exhibition. These will take place on Sunday 31st May and Saturday 13th June, from 2pm – 4pm. For more information please see the what’s on page of the Royal Botanic Garden website.
