Begonia pteridiformis was first collected in 1982, but the specimen remained unidentified until Thai botanist Dr. Thammarat Phutthai described it as a new species in 2010. It is found only in a few sites in Peninsular Thailand.
Actually it is pretty widespread in southern Thailand with well documennted occurance from Surat Thani province to Satun province. It grows on constantly moist limestone rocks in partial to full shade. It is not that easy to find the right habitat but when you do, you find lots of them. Often hundreds of plants can be found in one place.

Thanks for the info Robert, good to know there are some large populations still. I’d love to see it in the wild someday.
