A compact herbaceous woodland native, Paris quadrifolia, has fruited well this season. The flower stalks appear above the deeply veined leaves. There are still remnants of the green sepals beneath the round black fruit. These filled with multiple brown seeds.  The species preferring damp shaded woodland cover when it will then spread successfully via its rhizomatous roots.Paris quadrifolia
