Wednesday was a beautiful sunny morning, just perfect for an early morning breakfast at the Botanics. Our Edible Edinburgh event took place as part of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas and allowed visitors into the demonstration garden before usual opening hours.
Lots of very interesting organisations came along all focused on urban, edible and guerrilla gardening including The Fife Diet, Sow And Grow Everywhere, Trees not Trash and Small Green Spaces. We had great activities to offer such as making seed bombs, foraging, seasonal edible gardening advice and even a bike powered oat milling machine! My favourite was making an edible bouquet complete with radish centre piece.
Top Edinburgh chefs participated in ‘wild-food’ cooking demonstrations using foraged items and ingredients from the Edible Garden and all 120 visitors were given a free breakfast of wild herb muffins and wild venison sausages accompanied by tea, coffee and foraged teas.
All agreed, a delightful way to start the day.
