TRANSPLANTED

TRANSPLANTED is a celebration of the diversity of Scotland’s plant life and its music. This new project is the brainchild of violinist Alice Rickards and cellist Sonia Cromarty who have worked together as the string duo High Heels and Horse Hair since meeting at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Inspiration for the project came from the music of Scottish Baroque composer James Oswald who composed a compendium of 96 duos for violin and cello called ‘Airs for the Seasons’ in which each piece depicts a different native Scottish plant. As each piece of music fits on a single piece of paper Alice and Sonia have set eight leading contemporary Scottish composers the challenge of writing works inspired by plants and fungi that follow Oswald’s single page format.

The programme of concerts spans September to December and will include a concert at the Botanics on the 18th October. To find out more about the project visit the TRANSPLANTED blog and to buy tickets for the concert at the Botanics click here to book.

The Duo(Alice-violin and Sonya-cello) appropriately known as “High Heels and Horse” recently launched this project in Glasgow. Audience members comprised performers, composers, lovers of Scottish plant-life and people interested in new music. They were moved by this creative feast of new works by eight of Scotland’s finest composers as well as the sensitive and skilled performance from the Duo. Enhancing the presentation were superb images of each flower or plant life and the girls had some high heels made for them for the occasion!
It was a fabulous night. Edinburgh, you are in for a treat!
