Growing through the planting of Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ at the edge of the Copse is Oxalis corniculata a low growing creeping weed. Both plants adapted to dry, shaded conditions and thriving within the root zone of mature Pines and Ilex. The thin stems of Oxalis root at the leaf nodes allowing it to spread; taking up nutrients and moisture at regular intervals and contributing to the whole plant remaining green in such a depauperate medium. The accidental combination of these two plants associating results in good colour combination and effective ground cover. Just be aware of the explosive nature of the ripe seed pod effectively distributing the next generation of seed of O. corniculata over cultivated ground.
