Hosta is a genus of herbaceous plants that once frost occurs in the autumn rapidly lose their colour and structure. The first image, taken mid-October shows leaves past their best with no hope of admiration from garden visitors. What a difference fourteen days make. A cooler period, several days of frost and then an afternoon of low, bright sun. The leaves tinted brown and with the sun on then making the planting of decay and senescence look golden and vibrant. As if to prove that all is not lost, the seed pods stand above this weathered foliage, desiccated and revealing the black, paper thin seeds dispersing to regenerate as a future generation of plants.
