This stunning Laetiporus sulphureus fungus- commonly known as sulphur polypore or chicken of the woods- has recently appeared on a Nothofagus betuloides in the garden. The fungus causes a “brown rot” in the affected tree- making the wood weak and brittle over time.

The fungus has appeared on a previously damaged branch
