Josh and Mark at the marquee in Cruickshank Botanic Garden.

On the 11th September the Really Wild Veg event at Cruickshank Botanic Garden was fortunate to have gorgeous sunny weather. Around 50 staff and students came to the marquee to find out about the project. Josh provided tours of the really Wild Veg plots and participants were able to sample some of the produce. Staff from the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health who are conducting the analysis of the samples from the Really Wild Veg trial plots were on hand to explain what their research is examining and to provide some intitial results. So far there is strong support for the working hypothesis that crop wild relatives contain elevated levels of chemical compounds that have been linked to prevention of cancers and cardio-vascular disease.
