The group of Hydrangea quercifolia growing in the biodiversity garden are still showing good autumn colour. Large distinctively shaped leaves make this a worthwhile plant to grow. The deeply lobed leaves with grey downy tomentose reverse turn shades of red before falling from the straggly growth. This is best given a light prune to manage the shape of the plant in late spring. A native to SE USA found at low altitude in ravines and on ledges beneath Oak and Pine woodland. Widely grown as a cultivated plant in America.
