Looking for a cheap source of plants to bulk up your hedge or boundary shelter? Stay observant as you weed through the borders. There are often numerous seedlings of woody plants that have germinated and grown in the leaf litter through undisturbed borders. Even if these are not needed, make a thorough attempt to weed them out. These are the vigorous plants that undisturbed will grow undetected swamping out the more choice plants you have cultivated with care. While on this subject, a special mention should be given to Brambles. Seed dropped randomly via bird droppings germinates and makes rapid growth, do not allow these to establish. Should there be a mature Bramble lurking amongst your border, cut it out and then delve in through the undergrowth and dig out the root stock. Nothing less is acceptable.
