Opposite the Alpine area is a full flowering specimen of Hamamelis virginiana, an autumn blooming species from Eastern North America. Not to be confused with the Chinese species flowering in the winter months. This year the leaves have fallen early exposing the thin twisted yellow petals clustered on the current year’s growth. But the scent, on a warm, still autumn day, just perfect.
