A wet day brings out the best in the Alchemillas. Alchemilla alpina is one of the smaller growing species, native to Europe and Greenland. This clump forming herb folds its deeply divided leaves to reveal the contrasting colour on the reverse. On wet days, this silver is highlighted by the water from the raindrops and makes us realise that the beauty in the garden is not confined to the colourful blossom. A long-lived perennial that develops an almost woody base from which this fresh foliage appears. The back of the palmate leaves are covered in minute, dense hairs that give the silver appearance.
