With the last of the dark green foliage just hanging onto the stem the twiggy outline of Euonymus europaeus is enhanced by the cluster of red seed capsules split into quarters revealing the orange fruit. Papery wings on the stems of this open canopied shrub add interest through the deciduous winter period. Native to Europe and SW Asia seed for this plant was collected in Turkey on the KaƧkar Mountains where the parent plant grows in association with Alnus, Picea, Castanea, Rhododendron and Buxus.
