As part of the Edinburgh Living Landscape (ELL), the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is exploring Lichens as Air Quality Indicators.
This is a joint project between The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) Natural Talent traineeship scheme (funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation) and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE).
Frances Stoakley – is the 2015 Natural Talent Trainee based at the Botanic Garden. Under the mentorage of Dr Christopher Ellis and other RBGE staff she is gaining expertise in the taxonomy of lichens. As part of ELL Frances is also developing community engagement resources and activities which use lichens as air quality indicators to engage local people within the city with the air quality of their local neighbourhoods.
